Hey look, I have a blog! To be honest, I totally forgot. In this day of sharing, sharing and more sharing, I realize that I am actually NOT VERY GOOD AT SHARING… information at least. I’m not used it. Back in the day {cue the Grandma voice}, we wrote our first drafts in a journal, sketched rough drawings in cheap newspaper print pads. In art school, we used staples and tape and rubber cement- anything to jot down our inpirations quickly. The practice was to help us filter down our best ideas that hopefully would end up in our final finished work. Who cares that the road to perfection was littered with ugly scraps and clashing colors? The creative process {at least for me} has always been messy, fitful and sometimes depressingly unproductive until… a tiny whisper of truth shows itself and I finally finish my project with focus and integrity. Voila! {SO simple!} Anyhow, all this is just to say that I’m not used to making my “unfiltered” private thoughts public, not even my creative ones.

That being said, two years prior I found myself running my business sans my then business partner. She had a great reason to leave- the cutest twin babies ever! For me, let’s just say it wasn’t that fun. There was a lot of clean up and restructuring that had to happen as  I struggled to find my new “normal”. Around that time, my publicist Melissa {Ruby Press} came to me and told me I had to make a video- something that would show my new vision for the company and brand. Anxious about trying to create something authentic in a new medium, I can only thank God for all the gifted artists that came together to help me retell the story. Jesse Chui, Big Tree, Kat Taylor and our lovely models… you know who you are! Anyhow, it’s a little late but here it is posted again- my viv&ingrid story of friendship and little luxuries- “Love, Kites & other short stories”. I hope you like it!

Beauty of Found Art

October 31, 2011

I love stumbling across beauty in unexpected places! Last night, Tony and I were enjoying a quiet Sunday evening after service and found a small shop in the midst of packing up for its last day of business. It was 8pm at night so this tiny shop was like an irresistible light in the darkness. Filled with random and funny tchotchkes to antique hand painted china, we both spotted this unassuming drawing of a woman in repose. It was love at first sight and for a steal, her beauty was ours…

This week’s menu included a chicken and vermicelli noodle soup, pork sparerib stew, and mango pudding! I made the pudding with almond milk, topped with a bit of lemon rind and added a bonus dollop of homemade whip…

Mostly from Molly Luetkemeyer (loot-kah-my-er), interior designer. I can’t remember where the last image (with the mini-bar trolley) is from.
